The onset of menopause is a natural and, unfortunately, unavoidable process. This experience usually begins when a woman reaches her 40s. During that time, menopause symptoms and hormonal dysregulation can take a huge toll on your natural routine. Along with hot flashes, you may experience night sweats, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, and other issues. Mood swings may also come as a result of this change. When it comes to maintaining your inner balance, you need to rely on a doctor that provides comprehensive care. At Horizons Health & Wellness, we offer hormone replacement therapy and other GYN services to help women find relief.
What is the Difference Between Menopause and Perimenopause?
Menopause is a single day in a woman’s life, marked by the absence of any periods for 12 months. The most common age for menopause is 51, plus or minus 5 years. Many women develop a constellation of annoying symptoms in their 40s, but some women may experience these even earlier. These symptoms are due to a process called perimenopause, which is due to erratic hormone production from the ovaries as they near the end of their functional life. Perimenopausal symptoms include hot flashes, chills, night sweats, mood swings, thinning hair, weight gain, low libido, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and vaginal dryness. If these symptoms persist more than 12 months after the last menstrual period, they are called postmenopausal symptoms.
What Causes Menopause?
Our ovaries are responsible for producing hormones on a predictable schedule under the influence of other hormones produced by the brain. These hormones cause developmental changes at puberty, initiate and maintain menstrual cycles, regulate pregnancy and breastfeeding, and then decline during the perimenopausal years. Ovaries are programmed to start producing hormones at puberty and to stop producing hormones at menopause.
Can Hormone Replacement Ease My Menopause Symptoms?
Menopausal symptoms are caused by erratic and/or absent hormone production. At Horizons Health & Wellness, we offer hormone replacement therapy, in addition to holistic and lifestyle guidance, for women struggling with menopause symptoms. As part of your treatment with us, Dr. Aslami will create a personalized treatment plan to help improve your symptoms. For women, hormone rebalancing can be used to restore proper hormone levels and ease moderate to severe menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and more.
